Description:

We are currently searching for a Bridge Engineer-in-Training to join our Bridge Management Group in our Edmonton office. 

You will become an integral part of the Bridge Management Group and will be supporting inspection and bridge asset management projects and standard/major bridge and culvert projects for a variety of public and private sector clients including St. Albert, Parks Canada, and many other jurisdictions across the province. You will work with the team to grow the practice area, collaborate with clients, plan and carry out inspection/maintenance programs, and manage projects within the defined budget and quality requirements. There will be opportunities to develop your technical skills and undertake structural engineering design.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Supporting the project team through the preparation of project deliverables (reports, inspections, designs) and ensuring the project and client needs are met in an effective and timely manner.
  • Participating actively in client meetings and discussions.
  • Supporting inspection programs, developing maintenance/rehabilitation plans and building long-term asset management programs.
  • Preparing proposals, fee estimates and participating in business development/marketing initiatives for the group. 
  • Monitoring, controlling, and reporting project status internally and externally. 
  • Supporting the technical design teams for bridge, culvert and boardwalk projects.

Qualifications:

What you will bring: 

  • An undergraduate degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institute.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA. 
  • 2+ years’ progressive experience in Structural engineering and/or project management within the Transportation market.
  • Technical experience in bridge/culvert inspections, condition assessments, load ratings and/or bridge/culvert design and construction is an asset.  
  • An understanding of bridge structure standard component lifecycles and a passion for asset management is an asset.
  • Experience in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Access) and in management of large data sets, Microsoft Access Database development, and VBA experience is an asset.
  • Ability to effectively manage your own time, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and work under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Committed team player and highly self-motivated.  
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • This position will require occasional travel.
