Tell us about your job. What do you do?
I am the project engineer for serveral civil projects of various sizes. My responsabilities include the design of many components of a project including grading, sewer and water designs, erosion and sediment control, and road design. I also assist the team with proposals and other project management tasks as I transition to that role.
What’s an exciting project that you’re working on?
I am currently working on the new David D. Oughton School Site Redevelopment as Project Engineer. The project will house a compact community that will encourage walkability and will provide improvements to the public realm.
What motivates you the most in your job?
Being part of a team that helps re-create a vision and takes a project from the conceptual stage all the way to its built form.
What skills and personal qualities have been instrumental in the success you have achieved in consulting?
Communication skills is one of the main skills that have helped me succeed. In consulting, you work as part of a team and being able to communicate expectations to your teammates, and also to clients, will have a significant positive impact on any project.
What advice would you give a young person who was considering consulting engineering as a future area of expertise?
Consulting is a very rewarding job as you get to see when your designs are built and are used for its intended purposes.
