Tell us about your job. What do you do?
I work at Urban Systems as a Civil Engineer in Training. I work on land development and municipal projects. My role includes everything from preliminary to detailed engineering design, project and construction management, as well as contract administration. I'm currently working on a couple new subdivisions in the City of Chestermere as well as municipal infrastructure in the Town of Golden and District of Invermere.
What does a typical day look like for you?
One of my favourite parts about this job is that no day is ever the same. Right now we are in the middle of construction season so a typical day could include visiting a site to check on a project, attending construction meetings, completing shop drawing reviews or general contract administration and project coordination work.
What’s an exciting project that you’re working on?
I am currently working on the Golden Dike Improvements project. It has been a lot of fun seeing this project go from design to construction. I have enjoyed working with the town, engineering team and contractors on this project, and I am very excited to see it be completed.
What’s your favourite thing about working in consulting?
I enjoy working with a team to develop creative solutions to various problems. Every project is different, and I am grateful to be able to serve our clients and contribute to building better communities.
How did you first become interested in consulting engineering – what or who inspired you to be an engineer?
My dad inspired me to go into consulting engineering. He is also a civil engineer and I always enjoyed visiting his projects and seeing what he had worked on.
