Life in a growing professional practice is never boring; we work hard, tackle tough problems, value our team, and are driven by our purpose to help build vibrant communities.

In this role, you will benefit from the support of industry professionals while working on exciting and results-oriented projects that make a visible difference in the communities that we serve. Coupled with the unmatched learning and project experience opportunities, some of your key responsibilities would include:

  • Honing your civil engineering skills and developing an understanding of technical best practices in real-world applications.
  • Utilizing relevant guidelines and standards to guide water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure design.
  • Conducting hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modelling for water, wastewater, stormwater management systems and rivers and creeks.
  • Designing potable water infrastructure, including pressurized pipe networks and facilities (e.g., process piping and pump design).
  • Designing wastewater conveyance infrastructure, including gravity and pressurized networks, force mains, and pumping facilities such as lift stations.
  • Designing stormwater infrastructure, including overland and piped drainage systems and stormwater management facilities (e.g., dry ponds, wet ponds, constructed wetlands and Low Impact Development techniques).
  • Develop flood inundation and flood hazard mapping and conduct a variety of river engineering designs (e.g., erosion protection, flood mitigation).
  • Technical writing to document design assumptions, methodologies, and findings, clearly conveying the implications of the design to the client.

In addition to becoming part of the Water Practice team, you will remain an integral part of the overall Edmonton Engineering Team, for which you will be expected to:

  • Apply theory and provide workable solutions related to the design and implementation of horizontal infrastructure for Municipalities and Indigenous Communities.
  • Act as the clients' representative on-site during construction to gather information, conduct inspections and ensure designs are built to specifications.
  • Build and grow relationships with existing project leaders and clients.
  • Communicate professionally and proactively with contractors, co-workers, clients, and the general public.
  • Provide accurate and timely input on technical reports, plans, studies, proposals, and oral presentations as required.

Qualifications:

This opportunity is well suited to graduates from a civil or environmental engineering degree program who are eligible for registration with APEGA. Summer jobs, co-op work experience, or a few years in the industry are all considered assets. In addition, the following attributes would be considered a benefit to this role:

  • Eager to work on water resources related projects.
  • A keen interest in working with Local Municipalities, Indigenous Communities, and Land Developers across Alberta.
  • An interest in a wide range of civil infrastructure design and construction projects.
  • Effective communication skills (technical, written and verbal), and enjoyment in collaborating with others.
  • Ability to be engaged on multiple projects, prioritize work and meet timelines, and generally thrive in a self-directed work environment.
  • Driven with a desire to take the initiative; a problem solver that continually delivers consistent, high-quality work.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

The opportunity to work remotely and from home does exist, although, from time to time, we may need assistance with client work or face-to-face meetings. Therefore, the individual would need to reside in the Edmonton area.
