The CEA Transportation Committee comprises member firms who have an active involvement/interest in issues related to Transportation in Alberta. Although our efforts are focused mainly on strengthening our relationship with Alberta Transportation, we also get involved in issues affecting other owners in the Transportation industry. This is a strong, active group that has established very good credibility with Alberta Transportation. We meet five or six times per year in Edmonton and Calgary (with a video conference link). Key industry players from Alberta Transportation make presentations to the Transportation Committee at each of our meetings.
The Transportation Committee also provides input, support and organization efforts into two annual functions. The first is the Tri-party conference which occurs in March. This two day conference is attended by the three key stakeholders in Provincial Transportation projects (i.e. ARHCA – Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association, Alberta Transportation and Consulting Engineers Alberta) as well as other interested parties (i.e. MD’s, County’s, Towns, Villages, etc.). The second function is the CEA/AT Annual Mixer. This evening function occurs in November and it provides CEA and AT staff to meet socially to discuss projects and issues affecting our industry.
Committee members who are interested in leadership of our Committee are asked to make a six year commitment (2 years as Vice-Chair, 2 years as Chair and 2 years as Past-Chair) to active involvement in the Committee. These same individuals participate in key AT/ARHCA standing groups (Operations Committee and Strategic Priorities Group) where high level decisions are made that affect how engineering and construction work is delivered in Alberta.
