Description:

Purpose

Accountable to the Project Manager(s), Mechanical, the Designer, Mechanical will support the development and delivery of building mechanical projects during all stages of the project. The incumbent to this role is regarded as a technical resource to all aspects of project delivery and will participate in identifying and implementing solutions when appropriate. The work environment is of high volume, offering a range of project complexities and requires a high level of responsibility.

Responsibilities

This role encompasses, however, is not limited to the following duties:

  • Working with the Project Manager(s), develops mechanical designs for building construction
  • Actively participates in assigned projects during design and construction
  • Successfully develops relationships with engineers, technologists, technicians, and construction personnel
  • Coordinates the preparation of engineering specifications and drawings
  • Shares responsibility for ensuring the mechanical drawings and specifications meet established project criteria and applicable standards
  • Utilization of industry specific software and related technologies in design and analysis
  • When necessary, involvement with a variety of agencies for project approvals and permitting purposes
  • Participates in project meetings with respect to the project, progress reporting, and the resolution of technical issues, when required
  • Other duties, as required

Qualifications:

Education

Certificate or diploma in a related mechanical technology or drafting technology program, or equivalent experience, from an accredited Canadian or United States technical college or institute, with an emphasis on facility design and/or building science.

Experience

Two to five years of experience in technical design engineering for buildings or equivalent experience and responsibilities is required. A comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office and a minimum of two years of AutoCAD and Revit experience is required. Experience with various types of building and the ability to conceptualize in three dimensions is also required.
