The Tri-Party Partnership
As an industry in Alberta, we’ve been at Partnering for almost 20 years. We adopted this approach because we wanted more satisfaction in our projects by having better relationships and less conflict, and to improve schedules and quality. The results have tended to be hit and miss: on some projects, partnering has been helpful, while on others, not so much. In this day-long session, we will explore why Partnering has been only moderately successful in delivering our desired outcomes and, critically, what it will take for partnering to be reliably valuable; to make it stick. While there is broad agreement that partnering is a good idea, putting it into practical use across a variety of scenarios seems to be what’s missing. This session will delve briefly into the “what” and the “why” but more importantly, the “how”. How do we make partnering work, in the heat of projects? This session will help us embed the mindsets, behaviors, culture and systems required to transform partnering from concept to indispensable approach. Using specific simulations, role plays and practice sessions, we’ll deepen partnering from ‘knowledge’ to applicable skill. This is how we’ll make it stick.

Overall Desired Outcome:
Deeper awareness, engagement, inspiration. To create a practical roadmap the partners can follow to produce a breakthrough in the percentage of Partnering successes, thereby generating enthusiasm and buy-in for Partnering, ensuring sustainment.

Desired Outcomes of the Sessions:

  1. A shared understanding of the What and Why of Partnering
  2. Deepen the ability to practically apply the HOW of Partnering in the reality of our projects for a breakthrough in percentage of Partnering successes
  3. A commitment to individual and collective ongoing practices, including course-correcting for when we get off track
