Why Join Us? - Top 10 Reasons

Our prime purpose is simple - to help member firms be more successful. It is the organization that unites the Alberta consulting engineering industry to promote our common causes and defend our mutual interests. CEA makes it possible for our industry to speak out forcefully with one voice and to harmonize our efforts for a stronger image, more profitable business practices, effective government representation and functions as a business and a lobbying network. Our strength is defined by the broad volunteer involvement it enjoys from its member firms and by the value-added programs and services offered by CEA.

  1. Provides a forum for sharing experiences and exchanging ideas
"It is encouraging that, at CEA, competitive firms come together to promote our industry and our common issues in a spirit of cooperation and friendship."
-- Dale Loewen, P.Eng., Associated Engineering

  2. Unifies the voice of the consulting practice in Alberta
"In client groups and government circles, a collective voice is much louder and more effective than a single voice. We get things done."
-- Robert Gomes, P.Eng., Stantec Consulting

  3. Allows participation in a group, improving business conditions
"Involvement on CEA committees provide me with a positive opportunity to contribute to the future of our industry in a constructive and meaningful way."
    -- Brian Oshust, P.Eng., Genivar

  4. Enhances the image of engineers

-- Steve Stowkowy, P.Eng., UMA Engineering

  5. Offers business practice advice, standard agreements, training programs, seminars and a central information source.
"CEA has taken the lead in developing seminars and workshops on the 'business' of consulting; this role is critical to the success of this industry. And engaging the young professionals in our firms to get involved will go a long way to the sustainability of the CE industry."
-- Terry Gowing, P.Eng., Urban Systems

  6. Protects legislative and regulatory interests
"CEA provides an effective voice for our concerns with the three levels of government while protecting our anonymity on sensitive issues."
    -- Ian Darrach, P.Eng., AMEC

  7. Creates opportunities for business contacts, partnering and marketing
"CEA provides an opportunity to get to know others in the consulting engineering industry better, and to develop relationships that might lead to partnering arrangements on future projects."
-- Don Chambers, P.Eng., Walters Chambers & Associates

  8. Promotes selection of consultants on the basis of qualifications
"In a market defined by intense competition and changing marketing conditions, it is reassuring to know that there is a strong voice in Canada promoting the selection of consulting engineers on the basis of qualifications as the best way to encourage innovation and reduce life cycle costs for clients."
-- Dave Chalcroft, P.Eng., formerly with UMA Engineering

  9. Provides access to valuable business tools
"The annual CEA salary survey gives me excellent value in benchmarking and planning the compensation to be paid to our employees."
-- Paul Ruffell, P.Eng., EBA Engineering Consultants

  10. Listens to the voice of small firms
"As a smaller firm I appreciate CEA's leadership to assist small firms in the development of various documents such as quality assurance manuals, professional practice management programs, safety and HR materials."
    -- Leo Broks, P.Eng., Al-Terra Engineering
